Appellate Practice
Making a successful appeal, or successfully defending against an adversary’s appeal, is one of the toughest legal challenges and requires highly focused skills. Our lawyers give clients a comprehensive skill set for success in appellate matters. We are litigators who combine trial lawyer strengths with skill at preparing and responding to post-verdict motions, briefing and arguing appeals before numerous federal and state appeals courts. This combination of trial and appellate experience includes the ability to identify issues for appeal should the outcome at trial dictate one. Our appellate lawyers can also examine the trial record and quickly grasp the essential issues on which to base an appeal.
We offer clients in a full spectrum of businesses and industries the capabilities and experience necessary to appeal lower court rulings, coordinate multi-party appeals, solicit support for amicus positions, and conduct agency appeals. In addition to state appellate courts, we have handled appeals before the federal circuit courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. Members of our firm have served judicial clerkships in the Fourth, Ninth and Tenth federal circuits. Such experience means that we have a practical understanding of the appellate process, and are effective at crafting written and oral arguments tailored to the requirements of specific courts and judges.
